Day 7: Copenhagen

Amalienborg with Federikskirken in the background. Only one of the 4 Rococo buildings are open, and in the museum only about a dozen rooms are open. You have to buy a photo permit to take pictures, which is too bad, because I like the decor inside. It's not too much and not too little, but just right.

the famous Little Mermaid

the little blue bird I've never seen outside of Europe before. Unlike the pigeons and other birds, they're still wary of people and wouldn't let me get closer to take a picture.

the front of the State Art Museum...

and the modern art wing at the back! The two wings are even connected back to back!|| I usually don't like modern buildings that much, but most of them in Copenhagen are actually quite beautiful, and behind the museum is a big park, Ostre Anlaeg

Rosenborg Slot. Again visitors aren't allowed to take pictures inside the castle and treasury.

Last stop: Christianborg Palace. I couldn't take pictures again :( but the tour was pretty interesting. This is actually the thrid palace; the previous 2 burnt down and the 3rd one is built on the ruins. The queen can't really sit on the throne or wear the crown anymore because she's not a real ruler anymore, and one of the former Danish kings is called the father of Europe because his children all married other European rulers. One of his sons was actually chosen to be the king of Greece because the Greeks didn't have a heir to the throne.

Copenhagen really is a beautiful city. It's cleaner than the other cities I've been to and it just seems to be pristine and laid back. It's definitely one of my favorites.
