Prague Trip: Day 1

Last weekend I went with the buddy network to Prague. I thought they had organized everything, but they only had a short tour the second day, so we had to find our own things to do most of the time. Prague is supposed to be pretty similar to Vienna, since it was part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, but I wouldn't really know because I had been traveling around so much I actually haven't seen much Vienna!! :P

On our way to Prague

there are lots of fields along the way

After we checked into our hotel, we were brought to Wenceslas Square in city centre

The Natonal Museum in Wenceslas Square. I didn't go in but my friends said it kinda sux :P

the hall of the museum

a church in the new town

the new town hall

beautiful view at the Vltava river!!

an unusual building by the river... i think it's a restaurant?

beautiful houses by the water

.

the national theatre

Knights of the Cross Square right by the Charles Bridge in the old town

jazz performers on the Charles Bridge

Charles Bridge connecting the Old Town to the Little Quarter

streets in the Old Town

In the Old Town Square with the Church of OUr Lady before Tyn and Kinsky Palace in the background. The square is filled with tourists!

Unfortunately the Astronomical Clock on the Old Town Hall Tower was under repair :(

Church of St Nicholas in the square

Old Town Hall

a beautiful Art Nouveau building

the Parizska street in the Jewish Quarter. It's hard to imagine that it used to be a ghetto in the middle ages. Now the street is lined with designer boutiques!

Old-New Synagogue: built around 1270, which makes it the oldest synagogue in Europe! It sitll has Rabi Loew's chair, but I didn't go in because it was closed already :S and women can only observe form an anteroom anyways...

sunset...

the Rudolfinum

The Old Jewish Cemetary: the only burial ground for Jews for 300 years. People here were buried on top of each other for as many as 12 layers!! Pretty creepy stuff! Ribbi Loew was buried here too (for more on Rabbi Loew, please Google the story of the Prague Golem.) i didn't go in because I wasn't sure if I wanted to pay to see a cemetary...

a sculpture of Kafka in the Jewish Quarter. Very Kafkaesque!

The Art Nouveau style Municipal House

For dinner we went to this restaurant near the hotel. I had chicken Schnitzel with apple Strudel. The Strudel was crispy, and better than the one I had in Melk. After dinner people started playing drinking games... which I didn't like very much cos I don't like drinking... :P But I tried this cinnamon Czech drink called "Becherovka." It was pretty strong and I only took a couple of small sips... And after that we all went clubbing together. It was alright except they were playing porn on the video screen! Nobody has ever seen that at any other club before, and the other club we went the next day didn't have that either, so I guess it's just this particular club...

Got back to the hotel... Well... it's actually a hostel... but a pretty nice one

the washroom's pretty nice too
