Day 9: Amsterdam
The second day we bought the I Amsterdam card, which gives you free entrance to lots of museums and also includes the public transportation and some free deals. I got a free tasty bread roll and some free postcards. Too bad I didn't have time to go enjoy the free tea and liqueur :( And there's a free visit to a windmill too but it's too far out of the city so I couldn't go... :( The card is a really good deal so we went to visit a lot of museums.
The Oude Kerk. It's ironic how the red light district centers around it (sex shops are right across the narrow street around it!) In the church it even has an exhibition called "Beauty in the Red Light" or something like that!? I have to pay extra to get in even with the I Amsterdam card because of the exhibition so I didn't go in...
Rijksmuseum. Unfortunately it's being renovated until 2008 so only a very small portion of the collection was on display :S

the national theater
the van Gogh museum
.
We're actually no allowed to take pictures inside but I took one before I was told so :P
View of the museum area on top of the van Gogh museum
The Van Loon museum, the home of the Van Loon family, co-founders of the Dutch East India Company VOC. It is a very beautiful house with all the original furnishings and family heirlooms.

Museum Willet-Holthuysen. Similar to the Van Loon museum, except much of the original furnishing is removed to display fashions of the past, which I wasn't that interested in. Upper class women those days had to put on 9 pieces of clothing, including a ring cage for the puffy skirt. What some people will do for fashion...
.
Museum Het Rembrandthuis

Museum Amstelkring, another house museum. I don't really like the inside. Somehow it's almost a little creepy I don't know why?

horse-drawn carriage in the city
Inside the Nieue Kerk. Again I took a picture before I was told it's not allowed :P
Last museum I managed to visit before 5pm: Theatermuseum
front hall
beautiful hallway
meeting room
stage designs
After visiting all the museums I went to get my free postcards at Magna Plaza :P
With the I Amsterdam card there's even a free canal cruise ride! It's nice to sit down, rest my feet and enjoy the boat ride on the water after an entire day of walking. It's nice to see all the sites I visited again on the water.

My souvenir from the Netherlands: cloggy slippers. Too bad they're not as comfortable as they are cute. The upward pointing toes don't feel so good... :S
